Bite My Thumb Present: Rent

Bite My Thumb theatre are visiting the Carriageworks Theatre from 9th – 12th March to present Jonathan Larson’s Rent.

Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent is all about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. It’s a story that resonates with audiences of all ages, following a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive at the end of the millennium. It’s no wonder this exuberant musical ran for 12 years on Broadway and won the Tony award for best musical!

Here’s a secret: I’ve never actually seen Rent. But, having seen Bite My Thumb’s production of Little Shop of Horrors in 2019, I’m sure their production will be absolutely brilliant.

“We were so happy that the audience and critics alike adored Little Shop so much,” says producer Neil Knipe, “they really responded to our bold, imaginative restaging.”

So what can audiences expect from Rent? “We won’t be playing with the staging too much this time,” reveals director Nathan Winn, “Rent is about the music, the passion and the beautifully raw voices. But don’t get me wrong, it certainly won’t be the same production that you’ve seen
before.”
