Cinderella, written by Paul Hendy and directed by Juliet Forster, is coming to York Theatre Royal this December.
The spectacular pantomime will star Andy Day as Dandini. Since joining CBeebies in 2017, he’s become widely known as a presenter – taking dinosaurs, going on safari and investigating baby animals. He’s no stranger to pantoland – his previous pantomime appearances include the CBeebies annual televised pantomime as well as the Genie in Aladdin, Dandini in Cinderella, Muddles in Snow White and Billy Goose in Mother Goose.
Andy is an all round good egg, too. His live band Andy and the Odd Socks will be launching Odd Socks Day for Anti Bullying Week in schools up and down the country alongside The Anti Bullying Alliance, a charity of which Andy is a passionate Patron. It’s a great cause and it’s lovely to see such an influential celebrity lead such a great initiative.
He’ll be joined by two familiar faces from York Theatre Royal’s Travelling Pantomime – Robin Simpson (who’ll play one of Cinderella’s stepsisters alongside Paul Hawkyard) and Faye Campbell who’ll play Cinderella. Comedian and ventriloquist Max Fulham will also star as buttons. Having been voted Best Speciality Act in the British Pantomime, he’s definitely a panto star and someone we should all look forward to seeing live on the York Theatre Royal stage.
York Theatre Royal’s Cinderella will relocate the timeless rags-to-riches story to the city of York, with the stage coming to sparkling life with magical transformations, glittering sets, stunning songs and side-splitting laughs. It’s being coproduced with Evolution as York Theatre Royal’s mission is to create a brand new pantomime for everyone.
York Theatre Royal Chief Executive Tom Bird says: “We are over the moon to be creating a spectacular new pantomime for the people of York – one that’s tailor-made for the whole family, while honouring the pantomime traditions that our audiences love so much. The phenomenal team will give the York Theatre Royal pantomime a new lease of life with a fresh, family-friendly, fun-filled approach to the story of Cinderella, set with pride in our amazing city.”
Cinderella, the most magical pantomime of all, can be seen from 3 December to 2 January – head to the York Theatre Royal website to book your tickets.
