The world premier of Pinocchio, a new children’s ballet choreographed and directed by Gavin McCaig will take place at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds. Northern Ballet have been working on the show behind-the-scenes, with it intended to show in 2020.
The show is just one of a series of short ballets for young people, being a child-friendly 40-minute long ballet.
The show will be a balletic retelling of Carlo Collodi’s story about a lonely carpenter who wishes for his puppet Pinocchio to come to life. When his dreams come true, Pinocchio sets out on a quest to prove himself as a real boy.
Ian Stephens will perform the show to music which will be played live by members of the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.
Choreographer Gavin McCaig says: “Having proposed Pinocchio in 2019, I am delighted to get into the studio and begin bringing the characters and story to life with the Company’s world-class dance-actors. In what will be Northern Ballet’s eighth ballet created specifically for young children, it is both a privilege and a pleasure to be creating for the next generation of audiences and artists. I simply can’t wait to see it come to the stage soon.”
Don’t miss the show when it comes to the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds, on 26th – 30th October and 7th – 11th December. Visit northernballet.com/pinocchio to book.
