Decades: Stories from the City shares six monologues specially commissioned from northern writers to celebrate Leeds Playhouse’s 50th anniversary.
The show will be available to watch live and online from 19th May – 5th June. It’s great to see a hybrid of both live and streamed performances so everyone has access to the show!
Writers Simon Armitage, Leanna Benjamin, Kamal Kaan, Alice Nutter, Maxine Peake and Stan Owens, who all have strong connections to the Playhouse, have each taken a particular decade from across the Playhouse’s lifespan covering the 1970s to the 2020s. The result? A diverse collection of stories firmly rooted in the North.
Now onto the cast… Isobel Coward joins directly from The Laramie Project at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Eva Scott has previously starred in Corrie and the national tour of Trial by Laughter. Cassie Layton has enjoyed roles with Out of Joint and a starring role in the Globe’s Romero and Juliet. Akiel Dowe and Nicole Botha both make their professional debuts at the Playhouse while 15-year-old Connor Elliott is making his first appearance at the Playhouse following a number of professional stage and screen roles.
The monologues can be enjoyed either as six pieces in one evening or in two sets of three, or can be enjoyed online too! The Playhouse will continue to abide by all national guidelines and restrictions and the audience, cast and crew safety is the main priority.
