If you’re looking to get your festive theatre fix, York’s the city for you!
Let’s start with the Travelling Pantomime. It opened up at the York Theatre Royal panto stage earlier in December before going on a lovely local tour round community centres and village halls. It’ll be the first piece of live theatre many people will have seen for ages, so it’s great to see York Theatre Royal bringing lots of joy to the local community. If you live in York and haven’t booked yet, make sure you do!
York Stag are also bringing festive magic to the John Cooper Studio in the Theatre@41 Monkgate in the form of Jack and the Beanstalk: A Socially Distanced Panto. It’ll feature a cast of West-End talent who were born and bred in Yorkshire. The creative team is particularly impressive, featuring international choreographer Gary Lloyd. It promises to be a show filled with glitzy sets, costumes, signing, dancing and lots of laughs! Don’t worry, it’s a small venue but full COVID Secure measures are in place so you can enjoy the trip. Book now!
If you’re looking for some digital Christmas cheer, Wise Children are on hand to help. Following the successful broadcast of Romantics Anonymous, they’re bringing Kneehigh’s award-winning production of The Flying Lovers Of Vitebsk to our digital devices until 18th December. It’s a visually stunning, intimate and emotional production directed by Emma Rice.
It’s wonderful to see the city celebrating Christmas despite such a tough year.
