Mamma Mia! returns to Leeds Grand Theatre

Me and MAMMA MIA! have an up and down relationship. The first time I saw the show, I hated it. The second time I had an absolute blast.

This might be down to casting, or the fact that it takes a couple of goes to really get into the swing of the feel-good, silly carefree nature of the musical. Either way, I’m super excited to hear that the show’s coming to Leeds Grand Theatre this year!

The West End smash hit is celebrating 20 years since it first premiered in London in April 1999. It’s since been seen by over 65 million people across 50 productions in 16 different languages. It’s the eight longest running show in Broadway history and it’s still going strong in London!

The music and lyrics are of course by ABBA superstars Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, with the story-telling magic sprinkled on the songs by Judy Craymer.

The drama unfolds on an idyllic Greek island as the story follows our heroine Sophie, her mum and her three possible dads.

You might have seen the film starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, or the more recent Cher-adorned sequel. But if you haven’t seen it live, you won’t know what you’re missing! It’s such a heartwarming, fun musical that will truly have you bopping along in the aisles.

Don’t miss MAMMA MIA! at Leeds Grand Theatre from 24th November to 5th December 2020.
