Who’s excited for The Sound of Music coming to the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford?
The hit Bill Kenwright production follows the true story of the Trapp family, from their romantic beginning to their escape to freedom as Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of the Second World War.
The musical started life as a 1949 autobiography, before inspiring Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse to create a Broadway musical in 1959.
The cast has been announced and it looks fantastic. BBC One’s Over the Rainbow star Emilie Fleming takes on the role of Maria, while Corrie’s Andrew Lancel will play Captain von Trapp.
Producer Bill Kenwright said “The music and narrative of The Sound of Music are timeless. It’s a beautiful story about family and hope. The score transcends generations and the songs are known and loved by everyone.”
Expect classic showtunes including Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, So Long, Farewell and of course, the iconic title song, The Sound of Music.
Catch The Sound of Music from 25th – 29th February at the Alhambra Theatre.
