The Broadway and West End smash hit The Book of Mormon is coming to Leeds in 2020!
The Book of Mormon follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from their home in Salt Lake City… in fact, it’s all the way in Uganda. It made its world premiere in 2011 and has since taken the world by storm. It’s been performed on three continents and smashed box office records across the globe. In London it broke the record for the highest single day of sales in West End history. It has sold out every one of its 2781 performances to date at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
The Book of Mormon is written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez. Parker and Stone are the creators of South Park and Team American: World Police. I’m not a big South Park fan but you can’t knock the guys for being funny.
Robert Lopez is perhaps even more interesting, having co-written songs for Disney hits Frozen and Coco as well as the Broadway musical Avenue Q. The guy is an absolute genius, clearly with an eye for knowing exactly what will work in the industry. He is one of only 15 artists to win all four major entertainment awards – Emmy®, Grammy®, Oscar® and Tony®.
The show’s won Tony®, Olivier® and Grammy® awards – no surprise given it’s infectiously funny, with catchy songs and great characters. And let’s be honest, it’s pretty ballsy.
Catch the show from 8th April 2020 to 2nd May 2020 at Leeds Grand Theatre.
