Following four sell-out tours, Hot Flush The Musical is back. This sounds a little too much like Menopause the Musical for my liking, but clearly people love that kind of thing.
The show is all about four women, aka The Hot Flush Club, hitting the menopause years disgracefully.
Myra’s a successful divorce barrister whose husband leaves her for a “blonde bimbo”. Jessica’s struggling in the midst of a mid-life crisis, while Sylvia has been married to Joe since she was 20… and been bored since she was 21! Helen, a widow, is trying to take one day at a time. What a barrel of laughs this show’s set to be…
It’s described as an “outrageously funny and charming show” which to me reads – a great chance for a middle-aged p**s up, which does NOT sound charming to me.
The show stars Su Pollard, Helen Pearson, Melanie Gutteridge, Matt Slack and Ruth Keeling and is directed by Alan Cohen with choreography by Lorna Amy Sullivan and musical supervision by Olly Ashmore.
Su Pollard is the show’s biggest name. She’s best known for her role as Peggy in the BAFTA Award-winning sitcom Hi-de-Hi! She’s appeared on countless TV shows since and also had roles in the West End and of course the Panto. The other stars are going to give her a run for her money though, with Melanie Gutteridge having been on The Bill and Helen Pearson and Matt Slack being soap regulars.
The show comes to Grand Opera House, York, on Tuesday 24th September.
