Armistead Maupin, much-loved author and LGBT activist, is going on his first ever UK tour. His career first began in the 1970s when his series Tales of the City was first published as a column in theĀ San Francisco Chronicle. It’s now being adapted by Netflix into a new series set to star Ellen Page!
Having served in the United States Navy, condemned Jesse Helms at a gay pride parade, and accused San Francisco Police Inspector Dave Toschi of faking one of the Zodiac Killer’s taunting letters to the media, it’s fair to say Maupin will have a LOT of things to talk about.
America’s ultimate storyteller will recount his favourite tales from the past four decades. If you’re a fan of his books or his career, then this is a must see. However, having just read even a small amount about Maupin I’d say it’s worth going along regardless as he sounds like a thoroughly interesting man.
Tickets available at Grand Opera House, York, for the show on Monday 23rd September.
