York Stage are preparing for their biggest show ever as Shrek the Musical comes to York for the first time this September!
The musical is an absolute hoot, based on the DreamWorks Animation film. Watch the world of fairytales turn upside down as Shrek and Donkey set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from her tower. Can they overcome a love-sick dragon and the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad? The show is packed full of laughter, romance and fantastic tunes you just won’t be able to help bopping along to.
I expected to hate the show when I first saw it a few years ago but it really was so much fun! It’s got everything you need to put a great big smile on your face.
The show is directed and choreographed by West End star Damien Poole, who has a huge range of West End credits – including working on Shrek the Musical!
Jacqueline Bell will play Princess Fiona, Chris Knight will play Donkey, Joe Wawrzyniak will play Lord Farquaad, Emily Ramsden will play the dragon and York Stage Artistic Director Nik Briggs returns to the stage as Shrek after a five year run of directing. It seems many of the cast members are veteran York Stage members so hopefully they’ll be a tight knit cast of many talents!
Catch the show when it premieres at the Grand Opera House York from 12th – 21st September.
