Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s hit musical Little Shop of Horrors is going on tour this year. The cult musical was written by the creative geniuses behind The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin. Though, trust me, the show is not very Disney in its theme.
The story is about a lovely man named Seymour who works in a plant shop. When he comes across a new type of plant he realises the talking, singing carnivore has an intent towards global domination! Can Seymour save the world and win the heart of love of his life, Audrey?
Bite My Thumb, Cutting Edge Theatre and Gravitas Entertainment are putting a new twist on the production.
Director Neil Knipe says: “I just don’t see the point in producing the same show audiences have seen a dozen times before – using the same sets, the same costumes. It doesn’t excite me.”
Producer Nathan Winn adds: “You’ll see the show go from 50’s B-Movie black and white to glorious Technicolor as the show progresses, whilst Audrey II and Mother Nature herself slowly takes over the stage.”
It certainly sounds like an exciting new production. The show is touring West Yorkshire over September and October, including appearances at Halifax Playhouse, Joseph Rowntree in York and The Carriageworks Leeds. Follow the tour on Facebook for more information!
