Dirty Dancing is known for its famous 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray. Now the stage version, produced by Karl Sydow and written by Eleanor Bergstein, comes to Leeds! The show features original dialogue from the iconic film and all the classic songs and much loved characters. We’re all definitely expecting (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life – and the iconic lift of course!
The show tells the story of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman as she heads off on holiday with her family, but discovers entertainment of her own when she forms a connection with Johnny Castle, the resort dance instructor.
The show will star Michael O’Reilly making his professional debut as Johnny Castle and Kira Malou as idealistic Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman. Kira has played the role countless times in a previous tour, as well as being busy playing the lead role of Mimy in the new Disney series School Hacks.
I’ve not seen Dirty Dancing before, nor have I seen the film, so it’ll be a refreshing new show to see for me! I’m expecting incredible choreography and great songs – I just hope it’s not all too Jukebox musical!
Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage comes to Leeds Grand Theatre from Monday 5th to Saturday 17th August 2019.
