I’d love to see Menopause The Musical, mainly because I’ve got absolutely no idea what I could expect from it.
The production has been starring a variety of middle-aged ex-TV stars for quite some time, and this seems to be somewhat of a female equivalent of The Full Monty (in terms of cast, versus content).
This tour stars Cheryl Fergison (EastEnders favourite Heather Trott), Maureen Nolan (The Nolans), Casualty’s Rebecca Wheatley and Katherine Lynch (RTÉ’s Wagons Den). The show’s been going since 2001 and it must have something going for it!
It’s pitched as the ultimate girls night, promising fabulous comedy on the topic of hormonal women – and audiences can expect innuendo-laden versions of pop classics. It sounds like my worst nightmare, but I’m also quite intrigued to see the show one day. I guess it depends if the show effectively treads the line between smut and good clean fun.
The story is about four women at a department store sale, who on first appearance have nothing in common. However, the sale of a black lace bra soon stimulates comical female heart-to-hearts on hot flushes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex and plastic surgery. Sounds like a pretty depressing night out to me, but someone must enjoy it!
Have you seen the show? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
The show comes to St George’s Hall from 1st to 3rd May 2019.
