Tom Stoppard’s Rough Crossing is coming to Leeds Grand Theatre this April. Stoppard’s known for hit film Shakespeare in Love, but this show tells the story of two famous but desperate playwrights stuck in an ocean liner, trying to rehearse their latest show before reaching land. The absurd play features a variety of exuberant characters, including an unorthodox waiter and a love-lorn composer.
The show is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, who recently directed The Wind in the Willows. And what an incredible cast she’s got to direct! Former EastEnders star John Partridge leads the cast. I saw him live playing Billy Flynn in Chicago and he was exceptional, full of Razzle Dazzle and charm. The newbie on the block in this production is Charlie Stemp. Having made his name in Half a Sixpence and Hello Dolly, Stemp most recently starred in Snow White at the London Palladium. I haven’t seen Stemp perform before so I’m excited to see him live on stage.
The dynamic duo will be joined by West End star Issy Van Randwyck, Matthew Cottle, Rob Ostlere and Simon Dutton.
Don’t miss Rough Crossing at Leeds Grand Theatre from 1st-6th April.
