York Light brings Grease to the stage

York Light is returning to York Theatre Royal from 13th-23rd February to bring some Summer Lovin’ to the stage.

It’s nearly 50 whole years since the famous films hit the screens. If you haven’t seen it, make sure you do! John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John play the gorgeous high-school teens destined to be together despite some dodgy starts.Greased Lightnin’ and You’re The One That I Want are just some of the hit songs in the musical!

York Light are heading to Rydell High to bring some much needed heart-warming joy to the cold February month. It’s the first time the group have staged Grease, so it’ll be a fresh adventure! Making his York Light debut is James Horsman as Danny Zuko, playing alongside Sarah Craggs as Sandy Dombrowski. With a fair mix of amateur and professional work between them, it’s set to be a decent show.

The show’s professional director and choreographer Martyn Knight heads up this production, once again ably assisted by the new Chair of the company Sue Hawksworth. John Atkin returns as musical director and chorus master after last year’s Guys and Dolls, both conducting the band and playing keys during the two-week run.

Though there’ll be a notable difference between an amateur and professional production, when I saw York Light’s Guys and Dolls I was blown away by the standard of professionalism shining from the stage.

Catch the show at York Theatre Royal from 13th-23rd February!
