Hands up if you’ve seen the film Rain Man. Course you have.
Now it’s coming to the Leeds Grand Theatre stage from 29th October to 3rd November.
The story follows the self-centred salesman Charlie Babbitt, who discovers that his long-lost brother Raymond is a numbers genius. The autistic savant is taken from his institution and Charlie embarks on a trip across America with him – discovering the true extent (and worth) of his brother’s hidden talent.
It’s an Oscar winning film and this is bound to be a star production. Bill Kenwright productions of films to the stage include the fantastic Shawshank Redemption which I really loved! To adapt a film successfully for the stage takes a lot of specialist skill. Making an audience fall in love with the characters at a distance is a tough ask but I’m certain they’ll hit the nail on the head. I imagine it will be rather like Leeds Playhouse’s production of The Graduate… only better, thanks to its incredible cast.
Gavin and Stacey star Matthew Horne takes on the role of Raymond, while Downton Abbey‘s Ed Speleers makes his stage debut as Charlie. I love both actors and think they’ll be fantastic together in the starring roles.
Don’t miss the show when it comes to Leeds Grand Theatre!
