The premise of Missing seems like everything I wouldn’t enjoy, but I am an absolute sucker for an inspirational story.
Theatre company Gecko had their production Missing destroyed in a fire during a three week run at Battersea Arts Centre back in 2015. Members of the industry and passionate audiences donated to help get the show up and running again in just eight days so it could tour to Mexico. Now it’s coming to York Theatre Royal from 17th-20th October to share its story with Yorkshire audiences. Go on, Gecko, well done for being such artistic, determined troupers.
The show follows Lily, a woman whose soul appears to be decaying. She is very successful in life and love but something is missing…
The shadows of Lily’s past invite her, along with each audience member, to consider how far they have strayed from who they are and where they come from.
The show has toured the world, leading me to believe it is probably a particularly immersive and powerful show. If you enjoy contemporary theatre and choreography, this might be a good show to go and see.
