Northern Broadsides and York Theatre Royal have revealed who’ll be starring in their touring production of They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay!
Deborah McAndrew’s new adaptation of political satire Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay! will feature Lisa Howard as Anthea; Steve Huison as Jack; Matt Connor as Lewis; Suzanne Ahmet as Maggie and Michael Hugo as Constable, Sergeant, Undertaker and ‘Pops’.
You’re more likely to have heard of The Fully Monty and Corrie star Steve Huison. I’ve seen him live before and he was nothing like either of his most famed roles, so I’m confident he’ll bring something new and fresh to the part.
If you suffered through Hard Times from the Northern Broadsides earlier on in the year, then you’ll recognise Suzanne Ahmet. She wasn’t too bad, actually, but I’m not overjoyed to see her name on the cast list.
Adapted to bring us bang up to date with Brexit Britain,They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! tells the story of Anthea who gets mixed up in a riot at her local supermarket and seizes the opportunity to steal. But will they confide in their husbands or keep their thieving a secret?
The show will be directed by Northern Broadsides new Artistic Director and Joint CEO Conrad Nelson, who in the past has been involved in some pretty impressive productions.
Tempted to give They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! a chance? It’ll open at York Theatre Royal from 5th-13th October before touring until the 2nd December.
