This summer, York Theatre Royal is turning up the heat. This year’s Summer Sessions kicks off on 4th July with a free gig from New York Brass Band on 4th July.
From then onwards we’re looking forward to a fantastic fortnight of theatre, music, great food and drink to get the summer started.
The theatre’s TakeOver team will be presenting ‘Speak Out’ Slam on 5th July, an evening of provocative poetry and spoken word. Who’s heading along?
On 11th July, Adam Sowter & Co’s Hootenanny brings a whole evening of fun: live music, comedy cabaret and (of course) a bar. Join Florence Poskitt, Simon Bolley, Kjartan Poskitt and of course Adam Sowter for a fantastic evening in the sun, with appearances from Jonny Holbek, The Receivers, George Stagnell, Kelly Ann Bolland and Richard Bayton.
The Summer Sessions will support performers heading to the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe. On 12th July, Sophie Shepherd will MCing the evening featuring KIFLi Theatre, flattered collective, York DramaSoc and The Herd.
Don’t think it’s all theatrical fun – Clucking Oinks is serving delicious American fried chicken on 6th and 7th July. I’ve been told “It’s so damn good, you’ll think you’re in Texas”.
A pop-up restaurant with a brand new menu from Origin is arriving on 13th July. For £35 per person you can try the menu created by Chef Philip Veal. I have to say, I’m more a McDonald’s girl myself.
The last of the Summer Sessions is Wine and Tapas on 14th July – sample York Theatre Royal’s specially curated wine list and perfectly matched tapas dishes for just £15 per person. Now that sounds right up my street.
