When Wicked flew into Leeds four years ago, over 42,000 Yorkshire folk flocked to see the show. It’s no surprise, really, it’s an absolute corker.
If you haven’t sung along to Defying Gravity, then you’re really missing out one of life’s best simple pleasures (though your neighbours might not think so). Let’s not even touch upon other heartbreakingly beautiful songs such as For Good.
Based on a novel by Gregory Maguire, the show is a sort of prequel to hit book and musical The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It shows the Good Witch and Wicked Witch (as we know and love them) as sorcery students as they strike an unlikely friendship that is put to the ultimate test.
Adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman, the production is directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello with music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz. It’s already clocked up over 100 major award wins and is already the 14th longest running show in West End theatre history.
Don’t miss the show when it arrives at Leeds Grand Theatre from Wednesday 13th June to Saturday 7th July 2018.
