You may have heard of poets Sabrina Mahfouz and Hollie McNish? They’re the writers behind Offside, visiting York on its second UK tour following its super successful run at the Pleasance from the 2017 Edinburgh Festival.
Offside shares untold commentary from the world of women’s football, exploring themes of inequality, self-belief and empowerment. From 1892 right through to 2017, audiences will follow four women (both historical figures and fictional characters) as they face various obstacles.
Told through poetry and lyrical dialogue, I have to admit it really doesn’t seem like my cup of tea. Mixing sport and arts could be interesting, but maybe not like this. To be fair, Mahfouz and McNish have done their research on women’s football, working with Manchester City Women’s FC and Millwall Lionesses to ensure audiences are given an in-depth insight into their world.
Get your tickets for Offside when it comes to York Theatre Royal Studio on 10th and 11th May.
