Why you should take your kids to York Theatre Royal this summer

I have previously shared my immense excitement about Francis Hodgson Burnett’s novel The Secret Garden being adapted for the stage by playwright Jessica Swale. The family friendly production will run from 27th July to 25th August – perfect for young children to experience the magic of live theatre.

Presented by York Theatre Royal and tutti frutti, Little Feet Festival of Children’s Theatre (12th-16th June) will feature shows and activities on the theme ‘parties and celebrations’. There’s going to be something for everyone aged 0 to 12 years. Shows include Dinosaur World Live (13th and 14th June) where audiences can step into a pre-historic world of dinosaurs. An interactive show such as this is bound to be a great show for kids.

Keepy Uppy (20th-23th June), is the latest show from tutti frutti, written by awesome playwright Evan Placey. 3 to 7 year olds will be celebrating the World Cup year with this fab new play, while non-football fans can enjoy This Is My Bed on 2nd June, an opera about bedtimes, bears and dreams, and a bed with a mind of its own.

I’ve said frequently how important it is for young people to go to the theatre and enjoy new experiences, so it’s amazing to see York Theatre Royal share such fantastic productions! Visit the website for more info.
