A Handbag? The Importance of Being Earnest arrives in York

York Theatre Royal gets Wilde this April.

Yup, that’s right… The Original Theatre Company’s 2018 tour of The Importance of Being Earnest is coming to York Theatre Royal from 17th-21st April.

Can Jack Worthing marry his mate’s beautiful cousin Gwendolen by getting past the sassy Lady Bracknell? Is everything as it seems (is it ever in the world of theatre)?

Gwen Taylor stars as the epic Lady Bracknell, though she’ll have to work hard to outshine David Suchet who did a cracking job. Taylor is known for playing Anne Foster in Coronation Street and Barbara in, well, Barbara.

The rest of the cast are well known theatre names, but for the TV-guide spotter amongst you you’ll be interested to know Thomas Howes (known for playing William Mason in ITV’s Downton Abbey) also stars.

I’ll be heading along to watch this classic production. If you want to have a jolly good laugh, and an evening of culture (Oscar Wilde’s cultural, right?) grab your tickets from the York Theatre Royal website.
